Don’t Let Your Driveway Floor Become an Eyesore
When people arrive to visit you or simply drive by in the street, one of the first things that they see is your driveway floor. This represents a large part of the overall appeal of your home and you should go out of your way to make sure that it looks as good as possible. Remember that first impressions are everything and you do not want a first-time visitor to get off on the wrong foot. If your driveway is badly stained, you should think about surfacing it.
Over the course of a number of years, misuse can cause your driveway floor to take on a rather ragged look. Sometimes a vehicle will be parked outside on a very regular basis and oil stains will take their toll. If the previous owner had performed maintenance on his vehicle you will probably see the results. It is too much to hope that all previous owners of the home had been as careful as you.
If you are lucky enough to own a new home or to buy a home with a caring previous owner, then you may have a driveway floor that is in excellent condition. If this is the case, keep it that way and if you need to park vehicles there for any length of time, make sure that you place absorbent pads beneath. These will soak up any leaks that may occur from our vehicles and as your car or truck gets older it is more likely to fail in this way.
Never let your garage become so full of junk that you cannot park the vehicles that you have within. It looks much nicer from the street if you don’t have cars in your drive and this will also help to avoid your driveway floor surface becoming stained, causing you to put hours of backbreaking work into cleaning it in future.
Concrete stain work can be a very significant undertaking, but if your driveway floor is badly damaged in this way, maybe it’s your only alternative. The acid stain required takes a whole lot of preparation, otherwise it may not take. While you are doing this job, other surfaces must be protected or they will be permanently damaged.
Acid staining takes a lot of preparation and the first thing that you need to do is to undergo a thorough cleaning. Once this has been allowed to dry, find any cracks or blemishes and make sure that you fix them using concrete products. It is all in the preparation if you want to have a perfect finished result and if you don’t fix the blemishes, they will be highlighted once you stain them.
All dirt and grease will need to be removed from your driveway floor before you attempt a concrete stain. This will invariably mean the use of harsh chemicals, which could then cause blemishes to the overall surface. However, the concrete stain will take care of this residual effect.
Choose a mild time of year and not a particularly hot or sunny time when you start concrete staining. It needs to be applied to your driveway floor under as perfect a condition as you can find and it goes without saying that there must be no rain in your forecast to allow for the entire dying period.
