Furniture ” How To Find And Buy
Furniture is expensive. This is no surprise to anyone who has spent thousands on a new living room only to find that their new puppy or kitten enjoyed the couch as much as they did, and needed to replace it before it was even paid for. With pet owners, there’s little sense having perfect furniture, at least in the beginning.
Pet owners have learned that new furniture may never be in the future! It’s not always a matter of what they can afford; it’s a matter of how realistic they are when it comes to mixing couches and pets. A new leather sofa and a new kitten may not be best idea, although an older sofa in excellent condition might be the answer, at least until the kitty learns what’s off limits.
Other times, maybe you don’t need an entire roomful. Perhaps you need one piece such as a china cabinet or even a bureau for a spare bedroom. Many furniture stores have sections where mismatched pieces can be found, or even where you can find good deals on items that have minor damage. Even though these aren’t used, they are still bargains.
If items are made well, they will last for years and years. Finding a table or a bureau in perhaps a second hand store could be a real find! Some pieces can be over fifty years old and still look perfect, and cost very little. Frequently a coat of paint or some simple refinishing can turn an old dusty artifact from an attic into a new showpiece in your own home.
If you happen to like do it yourself projects, you can even find used furniture that you can fix up and resell at a profit! You don’t need to be an expert or a master craftsman. Many stay at home moms have learned how to turn things that was ready to be thrown out, into gorgeous items that they sold for great money!
Buying used beds, etc., is also one of the better options if you are buying for children. Because they tend to outgrow things so quickly, it can get quite expensive replacing beds and accessories every few years because fashion changes and tastes mature. That white princess bed from a few years ago probably was a must have, but now your teen-age daughter is dreaming about a brass day bed.
Second hand stores, consignment shops and even eBay are perfect places to start. Check bulletin boards at your school and daycare centers, too.
