How To Carry Out the Replacement Job Of Your Shingled Roof With A Metal Roof ?
The roof shingles provide the quintessential strength to one’s roof by protecting the home against the plight of external agents such as water, dust, air and sunlight.
The incorporation of shingles in the scheme of things is very regular with all the households. But the choice may differ in case of solitary or isolated homes. The households or the buildings which avoid the necessity of bearing the heavy weight of shingled roofs on them, go for the light-weighted metal roofs. Lesser seams per square feet and lesser susceptibility to cracks/molds, make the metal roofs a popular choice with the detached households.
If you have decided to replace your shingled roof with a metal one then shoot off the campaign immediately. Though the task of replacement appears to be a daunting one but with the correct application of logic, the project can be rendered to a one-day task. Before commencing the project, make sure that you have all the required repair tools and equipments in tact.
Use an extension ladder and climb up to the roof. With the help of an inch tape instrument, note down the length and breadth of the shingled roof.
Purchase the required length of the new metal sheet such that two or three inches are added to the final length of the sheet. A recommendation can be sought from the local salesperson regarding the same.
Kick off the actual task of removing the old shingles. You can bring in a roofing shovel or a pry bar tool to ease up this particular task to a large extent. Place the business-end of the tool underneath the edge of the shingle and push down the tool from the other end. Once you notice the nails getting uprooted, place a wooden bar in the gap under the head of the nails. Now, a fulcrum setup is rendered to the task which helps in easily detaching the concerned shingle.
Remove all the shingles one by one and place them down. Make way for the tin/copper panels you purchased and determine an edge of the roof to start off the task with. Screw the first panel on the defined edge and move along with the other panels as well. Let the edges of the panels overhang from both the sides of the roof. Finish off the task by cementing the nails and screws well.
In case things start to go awry, bring in the services of an expert roofer.
