Tips For Properly Moving Furniture

When moving day rolls around its important to take extra precautions when taking boxes and heavier items out to the truck. Your body can take a lot of wear and tear during your move. Plan ahead of time so you don’t wear yourself out.

Don’t put too much weight in one box. Put heavier items in smaller boxes, and lighter items in the bigger boxes. You should be able to lift the box without straining too much from the weight.

You should be able to lift the box with out straining too much. If you are carrying heavier boxes remember to not lift with your back. Use your legs by squatting down and use your lower body when standing up.

Make sure you have a good handle on your items before you move. A lot of spills and tumbles happen when you don’t have a good enough grip. If you feel uneasy, set the box down and try again, or ask for assistance.

You can rent proper moving equipment to help move heavier items. This will help save your back from having to lift the larger items. Rent a dolly or two to stack boxes on or other larger items.

Move your truck as close to your residence as possible. You don’t want to have to carry your items a long ways, so the shorter the distance the better. Make sure all obstacles are out of your path before you start moving items from your home to the truck.

Set aside boxes that are heavier and put them together. Let your movers know which items are heavy and which ones are fragile so they can handle those boxes with extra care. This will save time because your movers won’t have to test each box before lifting them.

Organize your movers. There will be certain movers who are better suited for moving heavier furniture and items. Assemble movers according to their skills so those who can’t lift furniture can still help move the lighter boxes and not get in the way when heavier objects are being taken to the truck.
